Calgary police are investigating after two men with gunshot wounds were dropped off at a city hospital early Saturday. It’s not known where or when the shooting occurred.
CPS Staff Sgt. John Guigon said the shooting was “without a doubt” targeted and there is no ongoing danger to the public.
According to police, the two men were dropped off at a Calgary hospital around 3:30 a.m. Hospital staff alerted police shortly after their arrival, Guigon said.
Guigon said the victims have not been forthcoming with investigators, making it difficult to determine key details.
“We have not uncovered the location of the original shooting, nor have we uncovered the reason for the shooting,” he said.
“All we can definitively say is that it was a targeted shooting and that our general community is not in danger.”
Both victims suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Guigon said both victims are members of Calgary’s south Asian community, and investigators are looking at whether the shooting might be related to extortion-related crimes targeting that community.
“Without further assistance from the victims, we’re at a loss to say that it is (extortion-related),” he said.
