Police in York Region are warning residents about hidden cameras used by suspects to surveil homes before they break into them.

In a news release on Monday, police released photos of the camera that was located on residential properties in Vaughan following two incidents.

York Regional Police said the camera and battery packs were disguised with camouflage.

“The cameras were hidden near trees and bushes on the properties,” police said.

“A review of the footage revealed the devices were placed to record homeowners’ routines, allowing suspects to scout the properties before committing break-and-enters.”

Police are urging homeowners to be vigilant and report any suspicious people, items, or activities to them.
