Vancouver-native Jae Seong Bae only came to Edmonton as part of a work project.

But one fateful October 11 morning, Bae happened to buy a LOTTO 6/49 ticket from the H Mart near 34 Avenue and Calgary Trail NW.

Months later, once the work project wrapped up, Bae finally got around to checking his ticket on the lottery’s official app and learned he’d just won $1 million.

“I was like, ‘Wow!’” he said. “You dream about it, but it happened!”

Bae won his jackpot on the Gold Ball draw. He says he plans to take time away from work and use his winnings to take a European vacation.

“I am very excited, and I feel happy and also very fortunate!”
