A youth from Sooke on Vancouver Island has been arrested and charged with conveying threats after a cross-border investigation by Canadian and U.S. police.
B.C. RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alex Bérubé said that on July 19, 2025, the homeland security unit of the Louisville Metro Police Department learned of alleged school shooting threats made by a 15-year-old Kentucky teen over the gaming platform Discord.
“Through their investigation, it was determined that this youth was in regular communication from someone from Canada. It was later determined the Canadian youth was living in the Sooke, B.C. area,” Bérubé said.
Police learned the youth attended Edward Milne Community School, a secondary school in Sooke.
Bérubé said that on March 13, 2026, the Vancouver Island RCMP general investigation section began an investigation and recommended a charge of conveying threats be laid.
The B.C. Prosecution approved the charge and a warrant was issued for the youth’s arrest.
On March 28, police went to the youth’s residence and made an arrest without incident. Electronic devices from the home were seized.
The youth remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
“The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is committed to work with international partners with the common goal of safeguarding public safety and to keep those individuals who pray upon instilling fear within their communities accountable” Bérubé said.
