The NFL’s first full preseason slate is well underway. The big story Friday was Shedeur Sanders, who finished his night 14 of 23 for 138 yards and two touchdowns, and added 19 yards on the ground on four carries. All in all, it was a promising preseason debut for the rookie fifth-round pick.

Now, it’s time for one of the first-round QBs, Jaxson Dart, to make his preseason debut as the Giants take on the Bills.

Shedeur Sanders’ debut edges Browns toward QB dilemma: Here’s what Shedeur Sanders’ first meaningful NFL incursion has generated. Consider this: For months, the spotlight on Sanders has washed out virtually every other storyline in the organization — and that was before there was something consequential to digest. Now he’s actually played some relevant football. And the outcome was solidly impressive for exhibition work, even from the most conservative of vantages: 14-of-23 passing for 138 yards and two touchdown passes, with two sacks and zero turnovers in nearly three quarters against the Carolina Panthers. But the true gravity of the performance was more in how Sanders held up after being tapped to start Cleveland’s first exhibition game, despite getting very few high-level practice snaps since the start of training camp.

Lions CB Morice Norris gives encouraging update on Instagram: Detroit Lions cornerback Morice Norris posted and reposted encouraging updates on his Instagram Saturday morning after he suffered a scary injury the previous night that cut short the Lions’ preseason road game against the Atlanta Falcons. Norris posted a story with the caption, “Amen Amen I’m all good man don’t stress it appreciate all the check ins and love.” Then he reposted a post from fellow Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold, who included a screenshot of a FaceTime call with a smiling Norris.

Patriots rookie houses opening kickoff: TreVeyon Henderson didn’t wait long to make a first impression on New England Patriots fans. Didn’t wait at all, actually. On the opening kickoff of Henderson’s first preseason game, he took it 100 yards for a touchdown to give the Patriots an early lead on the Commanders. That won’t go on his official career stats since it’s just the preseason, but it was an instant message to his new team that the playmaking everyone saw from him at Ohio State could be an asset in the NFL as well. The Patriots beat the Commanders 48-18.
