Residents in Rocky View County are being asked to weigh in on whether golf carts could be allowed for short trips on some local roads.

The county has launched an online survey to gather public feedback on the potential use of golf carts on selected roads with speed limits of 50 kilometres per hour or less.
Harmony and Langdon Among Communities Being Considered
The idea is being explored in communities such as Harmony and Langdon, and possibly others across the county.
The initiative follows a 2024 amendment to Alberta’s Traffic Safety Act, which created a five-year pilot program allowing municipalities to authorize golf carts on designated public roads.
To participate, municipalities must pass local bylaws, define eligible routes, install signage, establish a permitting process, and submit regular reports on usage, safety, permits, and public feedback.
In September 2025, Rocky View County council directed administration to explore the idea further, gather community feedback, and prepare a feasibility report by the end of the first quarter of 2026.
County Seeking Resident Feedback
Officials say the current survey is meant to gauge interest and collect ideas at an early stage of the discussion. No specific routes, rules, or decisions about golf cart use have been made yet.
As part of the review, the county is looking at potential benefits, safety considerations, infrastructure needs, costs, and overall community support.
Feedback from residents, along with research and best practices from other municipalities, will help inform a report to council that could guide future decisions on whether golf carts may eventually be permitted on certain county roads.
