A scam reported in Calgary is prompting Airdrie Meals on Wheels to remind residents to stay vigilant, even though no similar incidents have been reported locally.
The scam, which has surfaced in Calgary, involves individuals misrepresenting themselves to obtain meal delivery services. While it has not reached Airdrie, the organization is taking a proactive approach by encouraging residents to be cautious and verify any interactions.
Lois Jones, Media and Public Relations for the organization, stressed that Airdrie Meals on Wheels does not conduct door-to-door solicitation, a key detail residents can use to identify suspicious activity.

Despite the warning, the organization continues to focus on its core mission, delivering meals to those who need them most. Jones said demand has remained steady at a high level.
“Yeah, we’ve been averaging over 650 meals a month.”
Community support continues to play a vital role in keeping the service running. Recent donations have included a contribution from the City of Airdrie Social Club.
