The monster Civic hospital parking garage near Dow’s Lake?The stationary LRT anywhere on the west-end track?The gaping potholes seen from a Carling Avenue intersection?The uneven sidewalk next to the smooth bike lane on Laurier West?The endless construction of the new public library?The pre-renovation view of Lansdowne Two-Point-Zero?
The possibilities are virtually endless for a mayor running for re-election this fall.

Following the Air Canada crash and the loss of two young pilots in New York, I was bewildered by the comments from the prime minister in dressing down Michael Rousseau, the CEO of Air Canada, for his condolences in English only. (It has since been announced that Rousseau will retire later this year.)
While Canada has two official languages, that does not make us a country in which everybody has command of both languages. Unfortunately, a Harvard education doesn’t always come with a semblance of common sense, and, instead of stirring up a quietly simmering language situation or shilling for Quebec support, the PM should be concentrating on pipelines and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Re: ‘Lack of compassion’: Carney slams Air Canada CEO for English-only video following death of pilots, online, March 25
Once again, an English-speaking guy came under fire for not speaking French. Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau did a perfectly fine job in his condolence speech to the public. There was absolutely no need for it to be made political. (It has since been announced that Rousseau will retire later this year.)
Nobody seems to care that the Governor General, Mary Simon, can’t speak French.
