The Dallas Stars and general manager Jim Nill have announced that they’ve signed former New Jersey Devils forward Nathan Bastian to a 1 year contract for 2025-26.
The Dallas Stars, fresh off their 3rd straight appearance in the Western Conference Final, have signed a depth forward from the New Jersey Devils, agreeing to terms with Nathan Bastian on a 1 year contract.
The deal has an AAV (average annual value) of $775,000.
Stars general manager Jim Nill announced the deal and said he’s looking forward to Bastian’s physical presence in the Dallas lineup.
Nathan will add forward depth and a physical presence to our lineup, both of which will be valuable to our organization. We’re looking forward to watching him take the next step of his career with the Stars and are excited to welcome him to Dallas.
Taken with the 41st overall pick by the Devils in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Bastian played in the OHL for the Mississauga Steelheads before joining the Devils organization.
Playing for the now former AHL affiliate of the Devils, the Binghamton Devils, Bastian made his NHL debut in 2018-18 and scored 3 goals in 7 games.
He’s only surpassed double digits in goals one time in his career, scoring 11 goals in 2021-22. He has 68 points (33G, 35A) in 276 career NHL games.
The Stars are coming off their 3rd straight appearance in the WCF, but for the 2nd year in a row, were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers.
The year prior, they were knocked out by the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Stars have already made a major change in leadership behind their bench, firing coach Peter DeBoer thanks in large part for his treatment of goaltender Jake Oettinger, and have brought back Glen Gulutzan, who previously was their head coach earlier in his career.
