A Calgary man has been charged after police say he drove through a barricaded fatal collision scene in the city’s northeast early Wednesday morning.

Police say the incident occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m. on April 1, 2026, at Stoney Trail and McKnight Boulevard N.E., where officers were investigating a fatal collision.

Police say a vehicle drove through a barricade erected at the scene and continued at a high rate of speed while officers were present.

Police say the driver was arrested and the vehicle was seized.

Charanjit Ram, 39, of Calgary, is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and obstructing a peace officer.

“Police often close roads after collisions to protect the officers at work and the integrity of the investigation,” said Insp. Robbie Patterson with the Calgary Police Service traffic unit. “The barricades are there for a reason and there is no excuse for drivers to ignore them.”

Ram is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
