As Montreal heads into the Easter weekend, a range of closures and adjusted hours will take effect across the city from Friday through Monday.

Here’s what to know.

Stores and commercial services

Most grocery stores are open Friday and Monday but closed Sunday.

Pharmacies will remain open throughout the weekend, but some may reduce their hours on Sunday.

Easter Sunday is the only mandatory closing day under Quebec law, so along with grocery stores, retail and shopping malls will also be closed on Sunday. Friday, Saturday and Monday remain regular business days for most businesses.

Most SAQ locations will be open Friday and Saturday. Sunday and Monday hours vary by location.

SQDC stores will be also closed Sunday, but most should open at regular hours Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Most banks will be closed Friday, but open Monday. Hours may vary, so it’s best to check with your local branch.

Jean-Talon, Atwater and Maisonneuve markets will remain open all weekend, typically from 8 or 9 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m. Neighbourhood kiosks will also operate as usual.

Cultural attractions such as the Biodôme, Planetarium and Insectarium will be open daily.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the McCord Stewart Museum will be closed Monday.

Government services

Most government offices will be closed Friday and Monday. Offices like Accès Montréal counters, permit centres and courts will all be closed from Friday through Monday.

Canada Post will not deliver mail on Friday or Monday. Some privately-run post services may remain open depending on their business hours.

Garbage, recycling and compost collection will continue as scheduled.

Detainee cases will still be handled at the courthouse on Gosford St.

Parking restrictions will remain in effect across the city.

Public transit

The STM is operating on a holiday timetable on Saturday and Monday. See bus schedules at stm.info.

The RTL in Longueuil operates on a Saturday schedule on Friday and again on Monday, except Lines 22 and 93 will operate on a weekday schedule on Monday.

The STL in Laval operates on a Saturday schedule Friday and Monday.

Exo trains will run on a Sunday schedule Friday and a regular schedule Monday, while Exo buses will follow Saturday schedules on Friday and a reduced schedule on Monday.

The REM will operate according to regular hours with off-peak frequency. Starting Monday, trains will begin serving the full Deux-Montagnes branch until 1 a.m.
