A woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by an Eglinton Crosstown LRT train during a test run in Scarborough on Saturday, police say.Â
Officers responded to the area near Pharmacy Avenue and Eglinton Avenue E. around 1 p.m. after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by an LRT vehicle, Toronto police said in a post on X. Â
The train was on a test run for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT at the time, police confirmed in an email to CBC Toronto.Â
A 64-year-old woman was taken to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, Acting Insp. Brian Maslowski with the Toronto Police Service said.
The woman was on the raised portion of the LRT line on Eglinton Avenue just west of Pharmacy Avenue while a westbound LRT vehicle was conducting tests, he said.Â
She then crossed the path of the moving LRT and was struck by the front of the train, he said.Â
The woman was alone at the time, he said.Â

He said the driver “is being looked after … [and is] getting all the supports that he requires.”Â
Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage is asked to contact police.Â
In an email to CBC Toronto, a spokesperson for Metrolinx said the provincial transit agency is working with the TTC and emergency services to investigate the incident. Further questions should be directed to Toronto police, the agency said.Â
“Our thoughts are with all impacted by this event and we thank emergency responders for their quick response,” the spokesperson said.Â
Police and TTC staff were at the scene on Saturday afternoon.Â
CBC Toronto has reached out to the TTC for comment.Â
