Edmonton police have issued a public safety warning following the release of a convicted child sex offender.

Authorities believe there are reasonable grounds to believe the individual could commit another sexual offence against a child while living in the community, police said in a Thursday news release.

The offender has a lengthy criminal history involving sexual offences and child exploitation.

Alfred David White, 39, was first convicted in 2018 for committing sexual offences against children in Calgary. He was arrested and convicted in 2020, receiving a two-year custodial sentence. While on judicial interim release, he was found in possession of child pornography between 2019 and 2020, which resulted in an additional 15-month consecutive sentence in 2021.

After his statutory release in 2022, White reoffended in 2023 by accessing and uploading child pornography. In early 2025, he was convicted of possessing child pornography and breaching a prohibition order, receiving a further 27-month prison sentence.

White will now reside in Edmonton under strict court-ordered conditions to limit contact with children and reduce the risk of reoffending. He is described as a large man, standing six feet two inches tall and weighing approximately 345 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair.

Compliance with these measures will be monitored by the EPS Behavioural Assessment Unit. Residents are encouraged to report any concerning behaviour to EPS at 780-423-4567.

Officers stress that the purpose of this warning is to allow the public to take precautionary measures. It is not intended to encourage vigilante action.
