Two suspects are being held in custody and charges are pending against a third following a home invasion where a firearm was stolen and a family’s dog went missing.

The break-in happened shortly before 2 a.m. at a home in the area of Mount Hope Road and Old Church Road in Caledon, the OPP says.

No injuries were reported, but police say property including a firearm was stolen from the home.

Investigators also said the family’s dog, Dumbledore, fled the home during the break-in and was missing for days. He was later located and returned safely to the family home.

The OPP says an investigation with the assistance of Peel Regional Police Service and Toronto Police Service has identified three suspects, and two have been arrested and charged. A third suspect has been identified and the investigation remains ongoing, police say.

Caledon’s closed-circuit television cameras helped investigators identify the suspect vehicle, which has now been seized. Police also recovered some of the personal items stolen from the victims, including the firearm.

The OPP says Kevin Paredes, 19, and Noah Scharf-Omorri, 20, both of Ottawa, have been charged with multiple offences, including  theft under $5,000, disguise with intent,  break and enter a place and steal a firearm, and two counts each of assault with a weapon and robbery with a weapon, among others.

Investigators believe the accused may have been involved in other criminality within the Region of Peel, and are asking anyone with information to contact the OPP by calling 905-584-2241 or by email at [email protected].
