Residents who were supposed to have blue boxes and green carts picked up Thursday are asked to put them out Friday or Saturday, depending on area, and areas that were to have materials picked up Saturday are now shifted to Monday

With “unusually high volumes” following the resumption of waste collection after the mid-March historic snowstorm in Greater Sudbury, there are some changes for when blue box and green cart routes will be completed this week.

A notice on the issue was put out by the City of Greater Sudbury Thursday evening, although Circular Materials took over blue box and green cart pickup from the municipality on Jan. 1.

As of Thursday, April 2, only the scheduled Wednesday Blue Box and Green Cart routes were expected to be completed.

Most households with regularly scheduled Blue Box and Green Cart collection on Thursday, April 2 were not to receive service that day, said the notice, although there was no change to garbage service.

Households whose blue boxes and green carts were supposed to be picked up Thursday are asked to put them out today, Friday, April 3.

The exceptions are Chelmsford, Azilda, Lively, McCrea Heights, Val Caron, Coniston and Wahnapitae, who are asked to set materials out Saturday, April 4.

Please note that this temporary change for Thursday routes will not appear in the Waste Wise calendar, said the city.

For residents whose Friday, April 3 collection was moved to Saturday, April 4 because of Good Friday, there’s no change to garbage collection (set materials out April 4), but blue box and green cart collection is rescheduled to Monday, April 6.

This temporary change will be reflected in Waste Wise.

Garbage collection is continuing as scheduled, and no changes are expected at this time.

The following services remain temporarily unavailable:

Furniture, appliance and electronic collection and pick up requestsRequests for new or additional Green Carts

Leaf and yard trimming collection, resuming the week of April 13 on the regularly scheduled collection day and week

“We know these temporary changes are frustrating and appreciate your patience as crews work to restore the regular schedule,” said the city.
