Ahead of Saturday afternoon’s home opener at Willoughby Stadium, Langley’s pro soccer team has announced a last minute addition to the squad.
Just two days ahead of match day, Vancouver Football Club (VFC) has secured a new goalkeeper to reinforce the backline, announced the team.
Netminder Henrik Regitnig has signed a contract guaranteed through 2026, with a club option for 2027.
The 28-year-old is described as a “commanding goalkeeper praised for his presence in goal and dominance in the air.”
He developed in England with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace U-18 Academy teams in 2014, before returning to North America to play collegiately at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC).
Most recently, Hegitnig represented the German football association VfB Hallbergmoos-Goldach.
This most recent addition comes on the heels of Kevin Podgorni’s departure from the team in what’s described as a “mutual contract termination.”
The 18-year-old only joined the team last year, as an attacking midfielder from Mississauga, Ont. who had enjoyed a stand out year in the Ontario Premier League.
The team, heading into its fourth season in the Canadian Premier League this weekend.
Vancouver takes on the visiting Halifax Wanderers Saturday, April 4, starting at 4 p.m. at the Willoughby Stadium (next to Langley Events Centre).
But, before the boys take the pitch, the stadium’s northwest plaza comes alive. School of Rock, Langley’s award-winning senior house band, takes the stage when the gates open at 3 p.m. There’s also food trucks on site before and during the game. And at half-time, Cloverdale country star Jojo Mason will be performing live.
Tickets are still available online.
