Two people are dead following a late-night shooting in Brampton, prompting a major police investigation that continued into Saturday morning.

According to Peel Regional Police, officers were called to the area of Rutherford Road and Weybridge Trail at approximately 10:23 p.m. on Friday.

When police arrived, they located two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

Paramedics confirmed that both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the suspect or suspects fled the area shortly after the shooting. No suspect descriptions have been released at this time.

A large police presence remains in the area as officers continue to gather evidence and canvass for information. Residents can expect a continued police presence as the investigation unfolds.

Police say an update is expected at approximately 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
