The Washington Wizards are in a compelling contest today against the Miami Heat that features just the fourth point total of the season of at least 247.5 points. This means that while the Wizards won’t field a competitive product, we can find value in their young prospects and within the Heat rotation. With Miami pacing the league in pace, we could see a 2K-like box score in this one.

The Philadelphia 76ers host the Detroit Pistons in a meeting of Eastern Conference contenders. The Pistons won’t have Cade Cunningham or Isaiah Stewart, while we’ll need to wait for the 76ers’ lineup given they defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves last night. Even with Cunningham and possibly Joel Embiid absent tonight, each team is likely to run predictable rotation patterns.

The marquee matchup pits the surging San Antonio Spurs against the stalwart Denver Nuggets. The total for this game is also north of 240 points, suggesting plenty of offense from both deep and talented rosters. There should be a playoff atmosphere in Colorado this afternoon.

It’s important to note that the Heat and Nuggets games tip off in the afternoon today. With an eye toward uncovering productive fantasy streamers and compelling betting angles, let’s take a look at the day ahead in the NBA.

Saturday’s fantasy stream team

Pelle Larsson, SG, Miami Heat (Rostered in 10.4% of ESPN leagues): This Swedish shooting guard has turned into a key two-way contributor for the Heat in yet another patch on their culture quilt. With Norman Powell still sidelined, Larson is set to play big minutes against this inviting Washington “defense.” Larson has been producing in several categories in recent weeks, suggesting the potential for a rewarding line in this choice spot against Washington.

Davion Mitchell, PG, Miami Heat (28%): “Off Night” might be one of the best role player nicknames in some time. This defensive specialist can provide value with assists and steals, although his scoring ceiling is higher against Washington. That huge point total requires, well, points.

Will Riley, SF/SG, Washington Wizards (11.0%): The Wizards are letting Riley create his own shot in most matchups. This empowerment has led to steady scoring results and the occasional full line with rebounds and dimes. Miami’s reputation for defense isn’t as reliable at the wing, setting up Riley as a solid sleeper at a shallow position.

Paul Reed, C/PF, Detroit Pistons (3.6%): This is just a stellar day for role players with cool monikers, as “B-Ball Paul” has a high ceiling facing his former team in South Philly this evening. The 76ers are one of the worst rebounding teams in the league, setting up Reed with the potential to post a big line even in limited minutes.

McCormick’s favorite bets for Saturday

Stephon Castle OVER 16.5 points (-126)

The Nuggets lack point-of-attack defenders to slow Castle from getting two feet in the paint regularly this afternoon. They also lack the rim protection needed to keep Castle from living between floater range and the restricted area. The Spurs have a diverse and deep cast of complementary scorers, yet this matchup reads like Castle will need to deliver.

Kelly Oubre Jr. OVER 4.5 rebounds (-127)

With the Sixers on the second leg of a back-to-back series, Oubre is likely to take on more minutes and more shots tonight. His energy on both ends of the floor could prove rewarding, especially as his rebounding chances rise whenever Paul George or Embiid are sidelined.

Nikola Jokic, C, Denver Nuggets ($12,400)

It’s not exactly bold to ride with the world’s best offensive engine. With a limited player pool, I’ll take the chalk option when it’s this clear. The Spurs are, of course, special on defense, but Jokic is at home set with a massive total.

Tyrese Maxey, PG, Philadelphia 76ers ($10,300)

A depressed price based on the potential for Embiid to play when DraftKings set the menu, Maxey could define the slate with a big line tonight. With Cunningham and Stewart out, two key defenders out of the lineup should aid Maxey’s shot diet.

$6,100-$8,000 salaries

Stephon Castle, SG, San Antonio Spurs ($7,400)

Posting over 60 points the last time he faced Denver, Castle could be the king of the slate thanks to his powerful downhill driving and production on defense. This game could be defined by Castle’s ability to get to the rim.

$3,500-$6,000 salaries

Jaime Jaquez Jr., Miami Heat ($5,200)

The Heat produce the most possessions per game in the league. Jaquez often serves as a point-forward in these early-offense sets. This role can prove rewarding in that he delivers numbers across the board, if not a ton of buckets.
