Surrey nurse issued a two-day suspension

A Surrey registered nurse (RN) has been suspended for two days for several concerns, including medication administration and documentation that occurred between April and May 2024.
The British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) issued a public notice on March 23 regarding Dennis Natembeya. The notice highlighted concerns regarding “medication administration, documentation, and professional responsibility and accountability.”
This was conduct that the BCCNM deemed unsatisfactory, “with respect to the following professional and practice standards,” which includes: scope of practice for RNs, duty to provide care, documentation, medication, ethical practice, knowledge-based practice, client-focused provision of service, and professional responsibility and accountability.
“BCCNM standards set expectations to ensure nurses are practising competently, ethically, responsibly, and safely. Nurses are accountable for their nursing decisions, actions, and professional conduct. Nurses must meet these standards in providing care to patients,” said the BCCNM public notice.
Natembeya voluntarily agreed to the suspension, a public reprimand for breaching the standards and remedial education in select areas.
