A man in his 20s was arrested for impaired driving after fleeing the scene, where a vehicle struck another and two pedestrians in Etobicoke on Saturday night.
A 26-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving on Saturday, after fleeing the scene of a collision, Toronto police said.
It happened at around 6:20 p.m. in the area of East Mall and Bloor Street. Police said they were responding to several reports of a “vehicle driving erratically at a high rate of speed.”
A vehicle had struck another vehicle, police said. While the driver fled the scene, he was arrested a short time later.
On Saturday, Toronto police told CP24 the vehicle had struck two pedestrians, and were then sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Const. Laura Brabant confirmed on Sunday the occupants of the vehicle that were struck were injured and that the collision did not appear to involve any pedestrians.
“At the time, there was a lot going on with this collision and the circumstances,” Brabant said in an email.
On Sunday, Toronto police said the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate, but did not provide details on why.
The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates police conduct that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault, and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
The roads in the area reopened at around 8:35 a.m. on Sunday.
