Even though she’s been out since before the All-Star break with a groin injury, Caitlin Clark continues to drive the news in the WNBA.

On Thursday, during the third quarter of the Fever game against the Mercury, a fan holding a flag with Clark’s image on it was confronted by arena security. It does not appear that the fan was escorted out of the arena as some X accounts reported, but he was forced to put the flag away for the rest of the game.

Some arenas in the WNBA have size restrictions for flags that can be flown, and this fan’s banner may have been too large. Security in every venue across the league has been on high alert over the last week as conspicuous objects have been thrown onto the court.

The fan may have been forced to take the flag down not because it features Clark but because of its size. At PHX Arena, “banners and signs” cannot exceed 18 inches by 24 inches. The venue also does not allow them to be displayed during the game due to “sight restrictions.”

Caitlin Clark injury update

Clark will not play in Indiana’s game against Chicago on Saturday. She’s still recovering from the right groin injury she suffered nearly a month ago.

Clark hasn’t taken the floor since July 15, when she appeared to tweak her right groin against the Sun, and she has missed the past 10 games as a result of the ailment. She missed an additional seven contests earlier in the year because of a left groin injury.
