There has been a marked increase so far this year in the number of collisions involving impaired driving, according to the Ottawa Police Service.
As of March 30, impaired driving had caused 56 collisions in Ottawa, a 27 per cent increase in the number of collisions involving drugs or alcohol, compared to the same period in 2025, police said in a social media post on Monday, April 6.
The Ottawa police said they had conducted 17 RIDE campaigns from March 13-22, charging 30 people with impaired driving-related offences following roadside checks, RIDE verifications and community calls.

On April 3, the Ontario Provincial Police had reported in a news release that a 56-year-old Kanata resident had been charged with impaired driving and dangerous operation of a vehicle after registering more than four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system a day earlier.
The OPP had said officers from the Ottawa detachment received a complaint from another motorist about a possibly impaired driver on Highway 417 westbound near Pinecrest Road just before 4 p.m. on April 2.
The OPP thanked members of the public who call in to them about possible impaired drivers.
