Surrey, White Rock junior golfers win at weekend Morgan Creek tournament

Young golfers from Surrey and White Rock lit up the leaderboard with outstanding scores after a weekend Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) junior Worlds qualifier at Morgan Creek Golf Course.
More than 110 young male and female golfers played the junior tour tournament at the Surrey course Saturday and Sunday (April 4-5), the first of two events in the MJT RINK Golf Academy series this season, according to a release.
Athletes competed for AJGA performance-based entry stars and shortlisted exemptions into the Uswing Mojing Junior World Golf Championship, along with additional qualifying opportunities for the MJT East Coast Junior Championship and Team BC for the Junior America’s Cup.
Surrey’s Andy (Yul) Koh, 15, claimed the MJT Juvenile Boys division title with fantastic scores of 70 and 72 (142), highlighted by eight birdies and an eagle over two rounds.
Koh credited his off-season work, saying he “practiced really hard to improve from last season” and “worked really hard on my putting.”
“This event was amazing, it was a 10/10 event. Everyone was super nice and the course was in great condition,” he said in the release.
White Rock’s Daniel Moon, 14, dominated the MJT Bantam Boys division with outstanding rounds of 69 and a tournament-low 66 (135).
His six-under-par second round and 13 total birdies powered him to a decisive win.
“I feel very good,” said Moon, who also thanked his supportive parents, and rated the tournament a “10/10.”
Surrey’s Andy-Yanfeng Liu, 17, also placed second in the MJT Junior Boys division, with a 73, 74 (147) scorecard.
Both Moon and Koh are now qualified for the MJT East Coast Junior Championship and are shortlisted for the Uswing Mojing Junior World Golf Championship.
