Law enforcement east of Edmonton says numerous high speeds were recorded during an operation last week, including one driver going over 80 km/h over the posted speed limit.
Last week, Strathcona County Community Peace Officers carried out a strategic traffic operation along Highway 216 and Highway 14, and netted some alarming speeds.
In a post to the county’s Facebook page, it was revealed that among the highest speeds recorded were:
192 km/h in a 110 km/h zone
157 km/h in a 90 km/h zone
150 km/h in a 100 km/h zone
146 km/h in a 100 km/h zone
“These speeds are not just a little fast. They are dangerous choices that put every driver, passenger, and roadside worker at risk. When a vehicle is going this fast, it takes longer to stop, drivers have almost no time to react and the risk of a serious collision goes up.
Please slow down. Posted speed limits are there to keep everyone safe. Getting home safely matters far more than saving a few minutes on the road,” officers added.
Last month, a driver was clocked going nearly 100 km/h over the speed limit in Calgary, while last summer, a driver was clocked going more than 200 km/h on a rural Alberta highway.
