Former Formula 1 driver and current Canal Plus commentator, Franck Montagny, believes Ferrari may be hiding something behind their composed exterior. The Scuderia’s apparent serenity on and off the track has raised eyebrows among experts and rival teams alike.

Ferrari’s first three races: how to evaluate

The April break provides Formula 1 teams with a crucial opportunity to take stock of the season so far and identify the areas where development should be prioritized. Currently, Ferrari sits in second place in the Constructors’ Championship, bolstered by three third-place finishes: two from Charles Leclerc in Australia and Japan, and one from Lewis Hamilton in China. While the points gap to Mercedes in the standings is not insurmountable, the difference on track has been more significant, with the Silver Arrows consistently showing stronger race pace. A shake-up is needed starting from Miami to attempt to reduce the deficit to Mercedes.

Despite Mercedes appearing a step ahead, Ferrari has proven more prepared than McLaren in the first three races, even if the team seemed to show a stronger recovery at Suzuka, and certainly outperformed Red Bull in terms of consistency and strategy execution.

Montagny doesn’t trust Ferrari

Speaking about the Scuderia, Franck Montagny offered a striking perspective: “This year, Ferrari represents serenity. There is calm both in terms of on-track battles and regarding the technical updates. Whether the changes work or not, they don’t overreact. The drivers are positive, aware, and serene. They believe in the process. In my opinion, Ferrari is the only team that seems completely confident. And that is exactly why I am concerned. Have they figured something out that we haven’t? In the first three Grand Prix, there hasn’t been a single off-note in their statements, and it’s the first time in the last ten years that I’ve heard Ferrari this calm. If I were in another team, I would be genuinely worried because I’d ask myself: has Ferrari discovered something?”

Ferrari’s plans for April

As reported in recent days, Ferrari returned to the track last week at Mugello for TPC tests, which are carried out with older-generation cars. This week, the Scuderia will conduct a test at Fiorano on artificially wet asphalt, with at least one of the primary drivers participating. Additionally, AutoRacer.it has revealed that Ferrari will hold a filming day at Monza on April 22, providing further opportunities for the team to refine preparations and optimize both car and driver performance.

The Scuderia’s strategic calm, combined with consistent podium finishes from Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, has prompted speculation across the paddock. Rivals will be closely monitoring Ferrari during the upcoming tests and filming day to understand whether this composure is the result of meticulous planning, hidden technical advantages, or simply the mental confidence of a team perfectly aligned with its drivers. Regardless, Franck Montagny’s perspective reminds fans and competitors alike that in Formula 1, visible serenity may hide an even sharper competitive edge.
