After just two spectacular showings in the Octagon, Ethyn Ewing now stands as not just one of the brightest UFC bantamweight prospects, but one of the preeminent competitors in his weight class in the entire sport.
Ethyn Ewing Made Statement in UFC Debut after Fabulous Regional Run
In the waning months of 2025, the UFC put on their blockbuster New York-based UFC 322 card, an event that boasted two gigantic champion versus champion superfights. It was at this same event that Ethyn Ewing wound up snagging a spot at after agreeing to appear in a short-notice bout as the curtain-opener for the preliminary portion of the night.
On just two days notice, “The Professor Finesser” was thrust onto the grandest stage in mixed martial arts against a highly-touted undefeated UFC bantamweight prospect in Malcolm Wellmaker.
Holding a then pristine 10-0 record at the time of his scrap with Ewing, Wellmaker had already made himself a budding name to keep an eye on. Demonstrating a high-degree of knockout power, the UFC bantamweight phenom had won his first two contests in the promotion by grizzly first round starching, finishing both Cameron Saaiman and Kris Moutinho.
Originally slated to face Serhiy Sidey, Wellmaker would see a change in opposition twice, as Sidey and his replacement, Cody Haddon both pulled out the tilt before Ewing stepped up at almost the 11th hour. The pairing was also contracted to take place at featherweight, a division Wellmaker had never fought in before.
Despite being a monumental favorite in the bout, Wellmaker found himself on the wrong end of a patient and skilled beatdown from the debuting Ethyn Ewing, who managed to outstrike him on the feet while avoiding most of the incoming power shots. He also easily took him down on three occasions with little resistance, something that Wellmaker’s other UFC foes hadn’t been able to do. Getting his hand raised by unanimous decision over a man many had hailed as a future contender, Ethyn Ewing had logged one of the largest upsets of the year, while also earning a massive amount of praise as a newly-minted prospect.
Ethyn Ewing Collided with Estevam in Vegas Last Weekend
Aiming to impress once more in his sophomore Octagon outing as a bona fide UFC bantamweight, Ethyn Ewing made the walk for the first time in 2026 this last Saturday at UFC Vegas 115. Although the small Meta Apex was a sizable downgrade from the fabled Madison Square Garden, his adversary that night, Rafael Estevam, had a large amount of momentum going for him.
Unblemished at 14-0, Estevam had run roughshod over his opponents over the course of his three organizational appearances after netting his contract with the UFC on the Contender Series in 2022.
However, the Brazilian had started to build a notorious habit of failing on the scales, missing weight in his flyweight clashes with Charles Johnson and Felipe Bunes. Attempting to solve this issue with a jump to bantamweight at UFC Vegas 115, “Macapá” would disappointingly fail to make weight again, coming in at a half-pound over the 135-lb limit.
Ethyn Ewing Obliterates Estevam at Apex
Undeterred by the scale fail and his opposition’s extensive undefeated run, Ethyn Ewing proceeded to beat the breaks off of Estevam, keeping a blistering pace while bombarding him with volume punches. Looking completely outclassed the entire fight, Estevam simply had no answer for the slick striking of the American, which quickly began to chip away at his gas tank.
Near the halfway mark of the third round, Ethyn Ewing finally put away his opponent with a devastating body shot to the liver that immediately folded Estevam. Scoring two successive wins in his short tenure in the company, Ewing has cemented his position as a quickly ascending UFC bantamweight prodigy.
