A bus driver has been charged following a crash and rollover that injured several people in February.
The incident on Highway 401 near Napanee in eastern Ontario saw eight people taken to hospital when the commercial coach bus drove into a ditch and flipped onto its side while travelling eastbound.
“The bus was carrying 47 passengers along with the driver at the time of the incident,” according to the OPP. “Individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including lacerations, broken bones and dislocations. Injured passengers were transported to two local hospitals for medical treatment.”
Highway 401 eastbound was closed for approximately four hours in the area to allow for emergency response and the transportation of the injured to the hospital.
As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old from Brampton was charged with careless driving, ten counts of careless driving causing bodily harm, and making an unsafe move.
Police have decided not to release the identity of the person charged.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee on May 1.
