Sikh Heritage Month events in Surrey and beyond

The Sikh Heritage Society of B.C. is hosting a series of events in April in recognition of Sikh Heritage Month, as it works to deepen the understanding of Sikh culture, history and contemporary issues.
Some highlights:
• Vaisakhi of 1699: Thursday, April 9, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Guru Nanak Academy (211-7938 128 St., Surrey). This slideshow presentation looks at the history of the events of Vaisakhi 1699, when Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj revealed the Khalsa to the world.
• Kids Vaisakhi Program: Activities, stories and a “loving space for kids to learn, connect and grow in Sikhi” is planned for Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12, with programming for kids aged six and up, as well as toddlers and preschoolers aged 3 to 6.
• Blooming in Daya: A Paint Night: Wednesday, April 15, 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bhai Hardeep Singh Nijjar Memorial Building, behind Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara (7050 120 St.), in association with Jasmeen Kaur. (Sold out, waitlist available.).
• Sabh Mai Jot – a Night of Performing Arts: Saturday, April 19, 5 to 7 p.m., featuring storytelling and music in an original stage production, 5:30 p.m. at Centre Stage at Surrey City Hall, 13450 104 Ave. Tickets $20 through purchase.suurrey.ca.
• Anti-Sikh Hate Report launch event: Friday, April 24. As a followup to national town halls conducted by the World Sikh Organization, the WSO will launch its Anti Sikh Hate Report, with a speaker-panel event as well as a sharing of the report.
