The Calgary Flames have been involved in trade talks on defenceman Rasmus Andersson for almost two months, and the 28-year-old blueliner hasn’t been shy talking about it this offseason.

Andersson has one season left on his contract at $4.5 million AAV, and while he holds a six-team no-trade clause, the Flames have apparently been open about where exactly the mobile d-man would like to get moved. GM Craig Conroy had a trade offer on the table a month and a half ago, but Andersson didn’t want to move his family there.

Rasmus Andersson: Re trade rumours: “I have not given Calgary a team”; “I haven’t actually spoken to Calgary since they made the request, which was a month and a half ago” (*Swedish translation) – Expressen (8/8)

Once July 1st came around and Andersson didn’t sign a contract extension, the writing was sprayed all over the wall that his future in Calgary was clear as mud. The Flames have a boatload of cap space, they could do many things when it comes to trade package with Andersson, and they’ve been linked to Jason Robertson out of Dallas mostly, but would have to add significant pieces to get the Stars to bite.

Andersson is a top-four defenceman who blocks a ton of shots, has great offensive instincts, and can play heavy minutes in all situations. It’s actually kind of surprising considering he’s on the good side of 30, that the Flames don’t want to extend him long term.
