While the price of a one-bedroom and two-bedroom rentals dipped slightly in Brampton last month, average asking rents across all property types was still more than 10 per cent higher than the Canada-wide average.
The latest National Rent report shows that the average asking rent across Canada fell to a nearly three-year low of $2,008 in March.
But in Brampton, the average asking rent across all property types was $2,239 last month, a difference of more than 10 per cent.
One-bedroom rentals came down more than 2 per cent from slightly under $2,000 to $1,942 in March, while the average price for two-bedroom rentals crept up by 0.1 per cent to $2,304.
That put Brampton at No. 18 on the report’s list of the 20 most-expensive Canadian cities for renters in March, down from 15th place in February. East York ranked at No. 17 with an average rent of $2,245, while Halifax came in at No. 19 with a rent of $2,235.
North Vancouver was ranked the most-expensive rental market in Canada with an average price of $2,971 across all property types. One-bedroom rentals averaged at $2,462, while two-bedrooms had an average of $3,358.
Average rents for all unit types continued to fall province-wide, down 5.4 per cent in Ontario.
The condo market saw rents take a double-digit annual decline of 10.5 per cent to $1,644 Canada-wide, while two-bedroom purpose-built units dipped 4.8 per cent year-over-year to $1,793.
The largest apartment rent decreases in the past year were seen in B.C. (down 4.8 per cent to $2,362), Alberta (down 4.6 per cent to $1,642) and Ontario (down 4.4 per cent to $2,225).
