TRICON Garage had a dilemma less than a week before Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway: They had a No. 5 Toyota Tundra ready to head to Tennessee, but no driver.
A call to Chase Briscoe, who drives the No. 19 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series solved their problem.
“[I] had nothing else obviously going on tomorrow night, so I decided to go up there,” Briscoe told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Thursday.
Briscoe will join six other Cup Series drivers — Christopher Bell, Kyle Busch, Ross Chastain, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Daniel Suarez and Carson Hocevar — in a star-studded field for Friday’s Tennessee Army National Guard 250 (7:30 p.m. ET, FS1, NRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
Chase Briscoe making Truck Series return at Bristol
Briscoe has not raced in the Truck Series since 2023, when he finished seventh in the Bristol dirt race. His last Truck Series start on asphalt came in 2021, with his only full season of NCTS competition being 2017.
Briscoe has 29 Truck Series starts to his credit and is a two-time victor in the third-highest series of NASCAR competition.
“I went to TRICON on Tuesday and was really impressed with everything they have going on there,” Briscoe said. “It should be a lot of fun.”
