Winnipeg officers help grant wishes through annual fundraising event

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service went above and beyond this week for a special cause. 

A group of officers, cadets and recruits took part in the 4th annual Brave the Shave event, raising funds for Make-A-Wish Canada to support children and families navigating some of life’s toughest medical challenges.

During this year’s event, several officers shaved their heads, raising more than $26,000. That brings the initiative’s all-time total to more than $120,000.

“Thank you to everyone who donated, participated, and cheered us on,” said the Winnipeg Police Service in a post on social media. “Your kindness truly changes lives.”

Organizers say the goal was to raise enough to grant at least three wishes for children with critical illnesses, and that goal was reached.

Since the event began, a total of 12 wishes have now been granted.
