Rock Steady Boxing has a new home at Black Spruce CrossFit in Hermantown, open house is Saturday
A new home for Rock Steady Boxing, which supports people with Parkinson’s disease.
It’s at Black Spruce CrossFit in Hermantown. The first classes were on April 1st.
Diane Boese is the Head Coach. “We know that Parkinson’s is not curable. However, you can slow down the symptoms tremendously through activity, and so that’s what we promote.”
Rock Steady started in a CrossFit location, and has moved several times. But now it’s like coming home.
The classes are offered both in the morning and afternoon. Students from St. Scholastica volunteer for the afternoon ones, where people may need more assistance.
One of the other coaches, Sandy Marden-Lokken, has Parkinson’s. “We’re trying to branch out and broaden our horizons, and really with an effort to pull resources together, so that people with Parkinson’s don’t have to try and find the information on their own.”
Co-owner of the Black Spruce, Tiffany Schubitzke, shared, “The biggest thing about CrossFit and the community is that we’re all inclusive. We have an adaptive program here too. So to bring Parkinson’s in, they can do the boxing, but they also can filter into our CrossFit classes for strength.”
Come celebrate at their Open House and Fundraiser on Saturday, the 11th, from 12pm-2pm. It also happens to be World Parkinson’s Day.
