The Connecticut Sun are reportedly preparing to make a big splash for their final season in Uncasville.

Contracts were not eligible to be signed until Saturday.

The 35-year old Griner is a Houston native and played collegiately at Baylor. The Sun will move to Houston for the 2027 season. The franchise has been in Connecticut since 2003.

The franchise was sold to Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta’s Fertitta Entertainment for $300 million.

Griner, a 6-foot-9 center, played for the Atlanta Dream in 2025 after a successful run with the Phoenix Mercury. She missed the 2022 season after being detained in Russia for 293 days.

Griner, the No. 1 pick of the 2013 WNBA Draft, averaged 9.8 points and 5.2 rebounds for the Dream in a career-low 20.8 minutes per game. An eight-time blocks leader in WNBA play, she averaged 1.2 a year ago.Â
