The San Antonio Spurs have been one of the most successful teams in the league this season. Of course, they have a deep roster filled with talents like Stephon Castle, All-Star De’Aaron Fox, and even Sixth Man of the Year candidate Keldon Johnson.

Despite that, everyone knows that Victor Wembanyama is the superstar. At 7’5″, he already stands out, but he does well as the star on both ends of the floor. In fact, most people can agree that he deserves Defensive Player of the Year.

Looking at the defensive talent in the league, most people can see elite talent. Names like Chet Holmgren and Scottie Barnes could win Defensive Player of the Year in any other season, but not this one.

For most people, the award is a lock for Wembanyama. The argument for him is arguably unanimous, and Wembanyama himself knows it. He does not want other players to get a vote because he has a belief in himself that he deserves it.

No one can fault his confidence about the award because he is truly an impactful player. Whether it’s his blocks and steals or overall defensive presence, he truly is a generational defender.

“Yes, I would. Who are the other front-runners? Okay,” Wembanyama said to Hector Ledesma’s question about other contenders for the DPOY award.
He even scoffed at the idea of any other player winning the award this season. That is how confident he is in his defensive ability, and at the same time, he knows he is much more impactful than the others.
Maybe in the future, there could be a more heated debate. In the meantime, it seems Wembanyama is at the top of the totem pole.

However, his award being unanimous is still questionable because some people appreciate players like Holmgren and Barnes, who also came up during Wembanyama’s presser.
