REMUS – The Chippewa Hills girls soccer team remains undefeated after earning two home wins on Saturday.
Chippewa Hills opened its annual Spring Fling with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ithaca. In a tightly contested match, Ella Grinnell scored the game’s lone goal off an assist from Kaelyn Higgins.
“Both teams showcased strong defensive efforts throughout, limiting quality scoring chances,” Chippewa Hills coach Brian Simon said. “Defensively, Chippewa Hills was anchored by Candace Wrisley, who helped organize and shut down Ithaca’s attack. Goalkeeper Peightyn Wray preserved the shutout with a solid performance in net, keeping Ithaca off the scoreboard.”
In their second match, the Lady Warriors earned an 8-0 win over Baldwin with a balanced offensive attack and contributions throughout the lineup. Grinnell and Ashtin Snyder each scored twice, while Addison Monroe, Natalie Clark, Peightyn Wray and Vea Sarantos added one goal apiece.
“Clark also had a standout playmaking performance, recording five assists to go along with her goal,” Simon said. “Additional assists came from Grinnell, Snyder and Olexa MacKensie.”
The Warriors improved to 3-0-1 heading into a tough conference schedule, beginning with a match at Big Rapids on Wednesday.
Big Rapids’ girls soccer team fell to 1-2-1 on Saturday with two losses at the Marshall Invitational.
Big Rapids lost 3-0 to DeWitt (5-0), which later in the tournament defeated Ludington 7-0. The Cardinals also lost 3-1 to Marshall (4-2), which had earlier fallen 2-1 to Ludington.
Big Rapids opens Central State Activities Association play at home on Wednesday, April 15, at 6 p.m. against undefeated Chippewa Hills. The Cardinals travel to Traverse City St. Francis on April 16 and to Reed City on April 20.
