Brella brings dementia awareness event to South Surrey

A unique event that brings together art, storytelling and conversation to challenge stigma around dementia is coming to South Surrey.

Brella Community Services Society, a longtime non-profit that supports older adults and their caregivers, is closing out its Nav‑CARE project with an event that brings art, storytelling, and community leadership together in a powerful way.

At the Nav‑CARE Community Café: Arts Showcase and Social, community members are invited into a warm, welcoming space where dementia is talked about openly and without stigma, a Brella release noted.

Through expressive art, shared stories, and meaningful conversation, the café demonstrates that dementia does not diminish personhood.

“It also reminds us that inclusion begins with understanding,” the release said.

The event will bring together caregivers, community partners, and local political representatives, offering a rare opportunity to see how Surrey works collaboratively to build dementia‑inclusive communities.

It happens Thursday, April 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Gracepoint Community Church in South Surrey.
