A man is dead after a break-in at a residence in Ajax early Tuesday, said Durham police.

Officers responded to an incident at a home near Shorten Place and Haskell Avenue around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, said Const. Nicholas Gluckstein in an emailed statement sent to CBC News.

A man was found at the scene with “traumatic injuries” and later pronounced dead, said Gluckstein. He said suspects ran off.

The incident is believed to be targeted with no concerns for public safety, he said. Police have not yet said if the victim was a resident at the home or an alleged intruder.

Officers are out canvassing the area and urge anyone with video of the area between midnight and 2 a.m. to contact investigators.
