A Vanderhoof man was taken to hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries to his leg following a grizzly bear attack.
According to the B.C. Conservation Office, the man was walking his two off-leash dogs on his farm property at about 5 p.m., April 13, when he was attacked.
“He was able to scramble under a barbed wire fence, and the bear disengaged and ran off,” stated the Conservation Office.
RCMP and Conservation Officers responded to the scene and conducted a sweep of the area; however, no bear was seen.
Conservation Officers collected evidence from the scene and continue to investigate.
Based on the location and the circumstances surrounding the attack, officers have determined the attack was defensive in nature, and there was no continued threat to public safety.
Trail cameras have been placed in the area to monitor bear activity. Any sightings or conflicts should be reported to the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) line at 1-877-952-7277.
