A police investigation that began more than a year ago with the seizure of an illegal stun gun in Mississauga led to the discovery of several firearms and various prohibited weapons, and numerous charges against two Ottawa residents.
Three firearms, two prohibited knives, five sets of brass knuckles, two conductive energy weapons (aka stun guns) and forged documents were seized during the execution of a search warrant by police at an Ottawa home on April 29, 2025.
Three months earlier, in January 2025, Canada Border Services Agency officers at the International Mail Processing Centre in Mississauga had seized a “prohibited conductive energy weapon, commonly referred to as a stun gun,” from a package that was destined for an Ottawa residential address, the border services agency said in a news release on Wednesday.
The Dixie Road mail processing plant is located in the city’s east end, near Toronto Pearson Airport.
Following the April 2025 execution of a search warrant, which was carried out by the CBSA’s criminal investigations squad with support from Ottawa Police, subsequent investigation led to the arrest of two Ottawa residents last month, on March 18.
RCMP officers also aided in the lengthy probe, the CBSA said.
Denis Laurin, 53, of Ottawa, faces numerous charges related to alleged smuggling, firearms, prohibited weapons and possession of a controlled substance offences.
Michel Laurin, 54, also of Ottawa, faces multiple charges related to alleged firearms and prohibited weapons offences.
Both accused are scheduled to appear in court on June 18.
