I recently went to the spring/summer Chanel couture show. The collection was dreamy and otherworldly. I got to congratulate Matthieu Blazy after the show and what he said stuck with me: “In times like these, we have to give hope.”
I find myself thinking about the path of being relatable and the path of being aspirational. Chanel is aspirational, but thanks to Matthieu it’s maintained its humanity. He hasn’t lost his goodness in order to achieve greatness.
Matthieu’s impression is at once intimate and grand. I want to really know him. I care what he thinks. And I’m endlessly eager to see what he makes. Like a good marriage where yearning never dies.
