A man is in custody after a woman was found dead in her home with upper body injuries in the Ville-Marie borough Wednesday afternoon, Montreal police report.
Around 3:25 p.m., Quebec provincial police were called to conduct a wellness check at a residence on Simpson St. at Terrasse Summerhill, near the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The Sûreté du Québec told The Gazette it wouldn’t comment on why officers were sent to the residence.
Montreal police spokesperson Florence Stafford said officers found a woman on the scene with upper body injuries. Authorities tried performing CPR, but Stafford said she was pronounced dead by a paramedic.
A man is in police custody and will be interviewed by investigators to determine his involvement in the case, Stafford said.
A police perimeter is set up around the scene, and an investigation is ongoing.
