The next movie in the Ocean’s franchise will center around the 1962 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, Variety reported. With Formula 1 experiencing such massive popularity in the United States, it’s easy to see why movie producers would pick its crown jewel race to feature in a movie. It’s unclear exactly how much of the movie will focus on the actual 1962 Monaco Grand Prix, but we’d be intrigued to see if the drivers are tied to the storyline.
The next Formula 1 Grand Prix to grace the silver screen won’t be in a sequel to the not-so-cleverly named F1 movie that just earned an Oscar. No, the next F1 race shown in movie theaters will be the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix. Unlike the Flying Clipper documentary, however, which featured real racing footage of the 1962 race, we probably won’t get to watch much on-track action in the new movie, since this upcoming film will actually be a prequel in the Ocean’s heist franchise.

“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows—his parents,” Margot Robbie said, according to Variety. The movie will star Robbie alongside Bradley Cooper, who will together portray Danny Ocean’s parents. “You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix,” she said.
With a track layout that thunders past the famous Casino de Monte-Carlo and passes by the yacht-filled Port Hercules, the Monaco Grand Prix makes for the perfect tie-in for the heist franchise. Formula 1 is famous for its wealth, and Monaco is the biggest fish of them all.
We don’t really have any details about the plot of the movie yet, but we’re sure it’ll involve some sort of heist at the Casino de Monte-Carlo. We just hope that it’ll also include some cameos for pole-sitter Jim Clark or race-winner Bruce McLaren. In fact, the entire starting grid was awash with names that have become some of the most well-known in racing history, including Phil Hill, Graham Hill, John Surtees, Jack Brabham, Dan Gurney, and Richie Ginther.
