It’s been 26 years since Ben Stiller’s beloved male nurse Greg Focker worked hard to win over his terrifying father-in-law, played by Robert DeNiro.
Now, Ariana Grande is here to show him how it’s done in Focker-In-Law, the fourth instalment in the Meet the Parents franchise.

A trailer released on Wednesday shows Grande playing Olivia Jones, who is dating Greg’s son, Henry (played by The Social Dilemma star Skyler Gisondo) and meeting his family for the first time.
But unlike the trouble Greg received from his father-in-law Jack, Olivia gets a very different, significantly more positive reaction with a potential offer into the circle of trust — even if it does involve the newcomer undergoing a lie-detector test first.

While the latest Focker film looks arguably the best of the bunch, many on social media were more surprised by Grande’s voice — which is much different than what fans have heard over the last couple of years for her portrayal of Glinda the Good in Wicked.
“Genuinely gasped hearing her speak without the Glinda voice for the first time in 3 years,” one wrote on X, while another agreed: “The whiplash is REAL like wait, that’s her actual voice? I’ve been conditioned for 3 years.”
One user commented that they “don’t know what her actual voice sounds like.”
Another noted that “it’s very deep compared to her singing voice and her voice for Kat from Victorious,” but acknowledged, “I’ll probably never get used to Ari’s real speaking voice.”
The Meet the Parents franchise
Meet the Parents focused on Greg struggling to be accepted by his girlfriend’s overbearing father (De Niro).
The 2000 film surpassed US$330 million at the global box office and spawned two sequels — 2004’s Meet the Fockers, which added Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand to the cast as Greg’s parents Bernie and Roz, and Little Fockers in 2010.
Owen Wilson, Blythe Danner and Teri Polo reprise their roles from the franchise, while aside from Grande and Gisondo other newcomers to the cast include Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart) and Eduardo Franco (Stranger Things).
Roach directed the first two movies, while Paul Weitz helmed the third in the franchise. John Hamburg takes on the latest instalment.
Focker-In-Law hits theatres on Nov. 27.
