A new driver was caught going more than 50 km/h over the speed limit in northwest Calgary this week.
Calgary police say officers stopped a vehicle on Tuesday travelling 136 km/h in an 80 km/h zone of southbound Crowchild Trail near Sarcee Trail NW.
The driver, who had only held a licence for six months and had three passengers in the car, told officers it was her first ticket.
Police issued a mandatory court summons due to the excessive speed.

The incident comes as the city continues its Drive to Zero campaign, launched by the Calgary Police Service and the City of Calgary in September 2025 after Calgary recorded an 11‑year high in pedestrian deaths.
The initiative focuses on eliminating major injuries and deaths on city roads through targeted enforcement, public education, and long-term safety planning.
Police say high‑risk driving behaviours, such as extreme speeding, remain a major barrier to achieving the city’s goal of zero serious collisions.
