A baby is dead and a toddler is missing following a house fire in Central Alberta on Thursday afternoon.

The fire broke out Thursday around noon at a home along Township Road 482 in Brazeau County, just north of the Village of Breton, about an hour southwest of Edmonton.

Officers arrived to find a woman and two children had escaped the home, but a baby and toddler were still inside.

The body of an 11-month-old has since been recovered, but crews haven’t been able to find a missing two-year-old.

Emergency crews remain at the scene searching for the toddler.

Investigators are still trying to determine a cause of the fire.
