LETTER: Surrey schools shouldn’t celebrate religion

Editor,

There has many reply letters in the Peace Arch News to my original letter regarding religious events/celebrations in public schools. Many clearly didn’t comprehend what I wrote – and that is evident in the letter ‘Education leads to understanding’ (April 16 edition), which says “Steven Feldman’s letter states that no religion should be taught in schools.”

That is incorrect. I never wrote that at all. To be clear, my letter was in response to the PAN reporting of religious celebrations taking place in Surrey public schools – it was not about educational classes on religion. And since that original letter we continue to see Surrey public schools hold select religious holiday events/celebrations in public schools.
