UFC Winnipeg Main Event: Gilbert Burns vs. Mike Malott
The main event of tonight’s UFC Winnipeg fight card could have an effect on the UFC welterweight rankings. Gilbert Burns (22-9) enters the contest as the No. 11 fighter in those rankings, while Mike Malott (13-2-1) is looking for a way into the top 15 of the 170-pound division.
Burns, who challenged Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight title in February 2021, losing via third-round TKO, is on the worst run of his MMA career. Burns was 22-5 heading into his May 2023 matchup against Belal Muhammad and had never lost more than two fights in a row. Muhammad defeated Burns via unanimous decision in that five-round affair at UFC 288. Since that setback, Burns has lost three more UFC bouts, most recently falling via first-round TKO to Michael Morales in May 2025.

Malott fights in his first UFC main event tonight in Winnipeg. He is riding a three-fight winning streak since losing to Neil Magny via third-round TKO in January 2024. Malott was ahead 20-18 on all three judge’s scorecards when Magny turned up the heat in the third round to score the stoppage.
Malott has bounced back from that setback and is coming off a decision win over Kevin Holland in October. Like the Magny fight, a win here will put Malott inside the top 15 of the UFC welterweight division.
