A house fire in southwest Winnipeg on Saturday afternoon claimed the lives of two pets.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in the 400 block of Scurfield Boulevard just before 4 p.m.
When crews arrived, they encountered smoke and flames coming from the home, but brought the blaze under control by 4:41 p.m.

All occupants had safely exited the house before emergency crews arrived, and no injuries were reported.
However, one cat and one dog were found deceased inside the home. The City of Winnipeg’s Animal Services Agency attended the scene to assist.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and damage estimates weren’t available.
