An arena dedicated exclusively to the production of live televised boxing events is coming to North Houston in 2027.
Red Owl Boxing had been renting a space in Northwest Houston where it put on 17 events between 2021-25. The Owl’s Nest will be a 25,000-square foot arena off FM-1960, about six miles from George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Red Owl, which streams fights on DAZN, plans for the venue to host 21 televised boxing events the first two years it’s open.
“Houston is a phenomenal city for boxing, and an arena of our own allows us to deliver consistency at the highest level in terms of fan experience, fighter experience and in-house operations,” Red Owl Boxing executive chairman Gabriel Fanous said.
Red Owl Boxing actually is a media company that packages its fights so they’ll be TV friendly while focusing on young fighters and a lively presentation for fans in the building. The company has put on five of the last eight fights of Houston super lightweight Giovanni Marquez, the son of former world champion Raul Marquez.
The new arena will be built with that in mind, including a mezzanine level with luxury suites, larger outdoor bays for TV trucks, green rooms for content creation and enhanced staging for the fighters’ walks to the ring.
The company appointed Greg Bloom as its new CEO on Wednesday. Bloom, a Miami-based attorney, most recently was CEO at Bareknuckle Boxing (BKB), which has had media deals with Telemundo, Vice TV, TalkSport, BeIn Sports and Fuse TV.
